So who is Maxoperandi?

Born in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, on the border of Wales. Maxoperandi has spent a lifetime doing what he loves in Art, Design and Photography. He attended what was then Leicester Polytechnic and gained a BA Hons degree in Graphic Design and Photography in the late 1970s. Max initially worked in London for Advertising Agencies and Design Groups, his photography training proved a great asset working as an Art Director. He also helped local authorities set-up their own darkrooms.

In the early 1980s Max set up an Advertising and Design Agency in Derbyshire...this was before the days of the digital revolution (Artists still used Drawing boards, Magic Markers and Grant enlargers) ...but he relented in 1987 and bought his first Apple Macintosh Classic Computer. This revolutionised the way in which the industry worked. Max embraced this new technology and was eventually invited to work in South Africa by The Apple Computer Franchise. He was involved in the early promotion and demonstration of Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and Quark Xpress. Max returned to London in the mid-nineties and worked freelance for various design agencies as a Designer and Photographer.

In his "Old Day Job at Maximus Photographic" his studio covered all aspects of photography, Commercial, Fashion, Portfolios, Events and the latest 360 degree product photography.

Max has always been interested in the Art of Studio Lighting, and especially lighting the nude form. This was recently recognised by the Royal Photographic Society where he gave a day's lecture in Cambridge on "Lighting the Nude". Max is now helping other Photographers by teaching lighting on location in Northamptonshire.

Max has worked with many of the professional Art Nude Models in the UK... this culminating in a 3 day shoot with 4 models for a Communication Exhibition in the Isle of Man for a Satellite company. He has photographed the Milestones TT Calendar for many years with Rachael Clegg in the Isle of Man. He has also recently worked on the second Calendar for the Nurburgring in Germany. He influences have been the great Helmut Newton, Irving Penn, George Hurrell, Herb Ritts and latterly John Swannell.

Max has now hung up his cameras and retired from his studio, he is enjoying his retirement, but can still used other nearby studios if required. He is now exploring the wonders of AI and using his past work and experience to produce unique works of art and re-imagined photographs.

Max  (or Grumps) has 4 beautiful grandchildren and is happily married to his long suffering wife Kathy...who is still a great supporter of his work.
